JOB TITLE: 

Haitian Creole Interpreter and Translator

On-Call Basis Position

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Interpreting and translation services to facilitate communication between Framingham Public Schools parents/guardians and school staff. This includes bridging language and cultural barriers to protect the educational rights of families and their children.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Native Proficiency in Haitian Creole. Proficiency in English. Strong verbal communication skills. Experience the educational setting preferred.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. The employee operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.

 

REPORTS TO:

Manager of Translation and Interpreting Services

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Covered under the Framingham School Committee. This is a non-bargaining, non-benefit position based on the interpreting needs of FPS and upon request. 

 

EVALUATION:

The performance of this job will be evaluated by the Manager of Translation and Interpreting Services, FPS staff at the different schools/departments, and the Bilingual Office.
