TITLE:
Permanent Substitute Teacher/Campus Aide
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Principal or their designee, the campus aide provides supervision and direction to students in areas of the school campus and maintains classroom continuity to ensure that students continue to learn in their teacher’s absence in order to promote a safe environment for students and staff during classroom and non-classroom activities and to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the opportunity gap among subgroups within the schools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

INSTRUCTION TIME
- Implement daily substitute lesson plans.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
- Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom implements rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom.
- Remain calm, efficient, and positive.
- Supervise students in the classroom as well as in other settings (i.e. lunch, recess, etc.).
- Ensure the health and safety of students in their care.
- Work with small groups to support their learning, as needed.
- Respond to any questions from students and provide support and guidance
- Deal with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school's policies and procedures.
- Implement all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom implements rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom.
NON-INSTRUCTION TIME
- Supervises students at lunchtime and maintains a positive and safe atmosphere.
- Circulates throughout the cafeteria during mealtime. Helps students by opening packages and milk cartons.
- Cleans up spills and provides additional assistance as needed.
- Assists students through the cafeteria line in an orderly fashion.
- Ensures students are orderly and acting appropriately.
- Assists staff in lunchroom clean-up.
- Interacts with students to maintain order and provide assistance when needed.
- Adheres to the routines outlined in the school’s Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) plan as it pertains to the cafeteria.
- Directs movement of students to and from the cafeteria and classrooms in a safe and organized manner.
- Reports disciplinary and other concerns to the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate
safety concerns.
- Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to the supervisor.
- Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.
- Assists with student’s arrival and dismissal procedures.
- Monitors hallways and/or bathrooms.
SAFETY & SECURITY
- Monitor video surveillance systems on a daily basis; report all malfunctions and make appropriate recommendations for enhancements, needs, etc.
- Perform building security checks daily, report breaking of security to Building Administration, Head Custodian, and Facilities Manager.
- Assist in lockdown drills and any other security procedures.
- Assist with interior/ exterior building supervision (common areas, hallways, parking lots, athletic fields).
- Assist Administrators when needed to perform locker searches, restrain students, supervise students, and conduct investigations.
- Monitor in-house suspension, after-school suspension, and other student supervision assignments as needed.
- Attend dances, proms, and extracurricular activities as needed.
- Investigate reports of theft, vandalism, security breaches, etc. as assigned by the Administration.
OTHER
- Attend professional development and/or training as required by the District and/or supervisor.
- Other reasonable duties as directed by the Building Principal and/or their designee.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

- Must be required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building;
- Must often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time;
- Is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;
- Is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.);
- Must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools;
- Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties;
- Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer);
- Must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids;
- Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person, via email, and on the telephone;
- In the classroom, must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction;
- Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties;
- May be required to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces;
- Working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise;
- Must interact with students, parents, and other staff members;
- Must be able to kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull to assist and teach children throughout the day;
- Is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students;
- Must be able to interact with students, parents, and other staff members and occasionally must meet multiple demands from several people;
- While the majority of the workday is spent inside, must spend time outdoors for recess, fire drills, and special activities;
- May be exposed to bodily fluids, disease, or pathogens;
- May receive unintentional injuries from aggressive students; and
- May be required some degree of physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior;
- May provide limited personal care to students;
- Must occasionally lift or position students to provide services;
- May be exposed to volatile and assaultive behavior;
- Must be able to stand, walk, and/or push a wheelchair for extended periods of time as well as provide assistance and personal care to students;
- May be asked to assist with toileting, depending on a student's needs;
- May be transferred to a different school depending on students' needs and fit in the best interest of children; and

Hourly Rate for FY 22: $20 per hour 4 sick days per year
