POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide equitable co-curricular instruction and enrichment to students outside of regular school hours to either further develop a field of study and/or interest or introduce an area of study to enhance the teaching of the whole child.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in the area of study is preferred.

Knowledge of specialized content areas as well as any related laws and procedures.

 

Ability to consistently collaborate with colleagues through shared planning and/or informal conversation to analyze student performance and development. To support the creation of appropriate and effective academic, behavioral, and social/emotional learning experiences for students.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans a music program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of extracurricular goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all rehearsals, performances, and festivals and to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides positive feedback.
  • Counsels with colleagues, students, and or parents on a regular basis.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the ensemble.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful events for a student ensemble.
  • Calls staff/student/parent meetings as needed.
  • Handles fundraising, ticket money. bills and needed registrations and paperwork in a timely and ethical manner.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

 

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION:

This position is classified as Exempt (Professional).

  

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Covered under the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract.

Meets once each week for 1-3 hours including occasional weekends, minimum of 9 weeks.

Payment due at the end of the assignment.
