TITLE:

Boys Assistant Cross Country Coach

Fall 2021

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide direct training, instruction, and guidance to athletes in Boys Assistant Cross Country Coach. Coaches work with team members to help improve their performance and skills, in order to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience in playing and training in cross country as well as some experience coaching cross country.

Ability to train, supervise, guide, and instruct the athletes; to be able to motivate and support the team members;  to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form; to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups including staff, parents and the general public. To establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community; to work independently, prioritize tasks and manage several projects simultaneously; to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, state and federal laws, and Framingham Public Schools policies (as long as the policies do not conflict with the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract); to work with students of diverse backgrounds with diverse needs in an equitable and inclusive manner that bears to witness to cultural proficiency; to maintain appropriate confidential records; to react professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations (e.g. environmental changes, behavior/aggression, seizure activity, etc.);  and ability/willingness to plan, coordinate, conduct and participate in ongoing professional and staff development.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understands the strengths of the players and inspire them to overcome their weaknesses by using different types of coaching styles to add to their confidence level.
  • Advises, guides, and counsels the athletes on their nutrition, health, safety, and the use of various sports equipment.
  • Assesses, evaluates the performance of the athletes during the training and games
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Works with the athletic director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to run on the trails and move throughout the school building, buses, and other trails. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to routinely lift/carry athletic equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s/he operates recreation and /athletic equipment with dexterity and in a safe and efficient manner. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. Indoor and outdoor working environment subject to bending, crouching, and kneeling to assist students; pushing/pulling and lifting of recreation equipment; standing/walking for prolonged periods of time; occasional running and jumping; and reaching in all directions. The employee will be working in an athletic environment that will occasionally have a high level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, other coaches, and staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

 

REPORTS TO:  

Director of Athletics or/and his/her designee.

The performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Athletics and/or his/her designee.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

This position is classified as Exempt (Professional).

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Covered under Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract.
