TITLE:

Coordinator of Framingham High School Evening Academy, Grades 9-12 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The coordinator of the Framingham High School Evening Academy night school will provide overall support with the goal of maintaining high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and equitable access to students in  Responsible for instruction and general duties as indicated by the Principal, Director of Multilingual Education, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education, directives of the Superintendent of School, their designees, and policies of the Framingham School Committee.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in a high school content area. Please note that licensure requirements are subjected to change at the discretion of DESE.

Valid Massachusetts administrator’s license.

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree from an accredited college/university. Additional content areas license in Special Education and/or ESL is encouraged. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acts as the main administrator of the program in terms of educational, legal, and disciplinary compliance.
  • Collaborates with the High School Administration,  Office of Multilingual Education, Office of Health and Wellness, Office of Special Education, FHS School Counseling Department Head, and the ESL/Bilingual Department Head for program selection and scheduling by examining FHS-identified risk indicators.
  • Attends regular meetings with the Principal and the Office of Multilingual Education as well as all other meetings as needed.
  • Review and be knowledgeable of students’ IEPs and 504 accommodation plans; coordinate with FHS 504 Coordinator, Special Education department head, Team Evaluation Coordinators, and other Special Education staff to ensure all accommodations and services are met.
  • Adapt 9-12 curricula into appropriate competency-based activities & instruction while maintaining a high level of rigor for students and alignment to Massachusetts State Frameworks for all subjects.
  • Collaborate with the Multilingua Curriculum Coordinator on developing and implementing an ESL curriculum scope and sequence for ESL instruction to align with district ESL scope and sequence.
  • Oversee development of curriculum scope and sequence for all core coursework to align with MA frameworks and district-approved curricula; submit to Office of Teaching and Learning for approval.
  • Participates in Advisory Check-ins, serving as an advisor to designated students.
  • Monitors grades, attendance, participation, and conducts referrals for all students in the program; responds to issues and concerns in these areas in a timely manner to help students get back on track.
  • Regularly reports to FHS administration, including appropriate grade level vice principals, on student success and challenges.  
  • Meets on a regular basis with the Office of Multilingual Education to report on English Learners’ successes and challenges in meeting their state ELP (English Language Proficiency) targets.
  • Assumes responsibility for student and family outreach and communication of alternate programs.
  • Coordinates and supervises teachers in the Program.
  • Some evaluation responsibilities may be assigned as determined by the school principal.
  • Supports instructor and student academic and social emotional needs as apppropriate.
  • Visits each class, every day the program is in session.
  • Builds positive relationships with students, staff, and families in the program.
  • Troubleshoots and addresses emergencies/crisis situations that occur when the program is in session in the evenings.
  • Reports any issues that arise during the Program to the FHS Principal in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinates with food services for student meals.
  • Coordinate coverage for staff absences.
  • Coordinate with Flyers by Night program staff to provide access to appropriate offerings and resources.
  • Coordinates the assessment schedules and administration for the night school program to include MCAS, ACCESS for ELLs and the ESL Writing Assessment, and any other assessments deemed appropriate by the Office of Teaching and Learning and the Office of Multilingual Education.
  • Manages timesheets and instructor stipends.
  • Works with the Counseling Department to determine and support all students’ college and career readiness, including individualized plans to reach these goals.
  • Develops Professional Development opportunities for staff when applicable. 
  • Coordinates classrooms and remote education in night program.
  • Collaborates with and seeks approval from Department Heads regarding teachers’ Curriculum and Scope of Sequence for all classes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students. 

 

REPORTS TO:  

Building Principal and Office of Teaching and Learning. The performance of this job will be evaluated as per the Framingham Administrators Association (Unit B) Contract. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinator will supervise all personnel in the Evening Academy.

 

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION:

This position is classified as Exempt (Professional).

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position will be covered under the Framingham Administrators Association (Unit B) Contract.
