SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Speech-Language Pathology and current and valid American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competency. Master’s Degree with a supervised internship is preferred.

Ability to consistently collaborate with colleagues through shared planning and/or informal conversation to analyze student performance and development, and to plan appropriate interventions at the classroom or school level; and to regularly provide advice and expertise to general education teachers and the school community to support the creation of appropriate and effective academic, behavioral, and social/emotional learning experiences for students.

  • Responsible for following the student IEP and ensuring compliance with state and federal SPED regulations including the delivery of high-quality services, the provision of accommodations/modifications for instruction and assessment.
  • Responsible for the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of communication disorder for students.
  • Responsible for the preparation of written reports upon the completion of an evaluation.
  • Responsible for communicating and collaborating with parents, teachers and other school personnel to provide recommendations for class accommodations, modifications, and appropriate referrals.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of goals as specified in the student’s Individualized Educational Program.
  • Responsible for monitoring and documenting progress towards IEP goals.
  • Responsible for creating and coordinating a schedule of services for students to ensure all IEP requirements are met.
  • Responsible for the promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning in the least restrictive environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services and building administrator, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally they operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students. PHYSICAL THERAPIST


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree. Licensed as a physical therapist in the state of Massachusetts and by DESE.

Licensed as an Occupational Therapist by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Master’s Degree preferred.

ABA THERAPISTS

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE:

One or two years of supervised ABA training, and experience using ABA methodologies, preferably in a public school setting, with students on the Autism spectrum. Bachelor's degree in the area of Education or Psychology preferred.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITY:

Knowledge of applied behavior analysis and appropriate interventions for students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Understanding of child development and curriculum and instruction materials used at various grade levels are essential skills in order to assist the students in accessing their learning environment.

  • Use appropriately applied behavior teaching, communication, and reinforcement techniques consistently.
  • Provide a highly structured approach that relies on behavioral principles.
  • Translate IEP goals into written ABA programs.
  • Assess basic language and learning skills.
  • Design, collect and organize program materials that follow a particular developmental sequence.
  • Provide 1:1 direct teaching instruction including discrete trials and incidental teaching.
  • Assist students in generalizing skills within general education settings.
  • Collect data, record progress and adjust child’s programs.
  • Implement behavior support plans.
  • Write appropriate social stories.
  • Ensure that all programs are being taught consistently.
  • Communicate specifics of individualized programs to all staff working with a student.
  • Attend TEAM meetings.

The other time is primarily sedentary, performed in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands; fingers; to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and close vision such as reading the typewritten material. The work typically requires occasional in-district travel to attend meetings. The employee may deal with emotionally and physically dysregulated children.
