TITLE:

High School Tutor

(On-call basis)

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

To help students reach their full potential by supplementing or providing instruction and guiding them toward study practices that can help them excel. Tutors work with individual students one-on-one, though occasionally organize group activities for students who are studying the same material in order to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Associate degree required. Teaching certificate preferred

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

3+ years’ experience tutoring children and teenagers

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate tutoring sessions with student and parent/guardian
  • Meet with students at school, their homes or at a public location in the community to complete school work in the applicable subject area(s)
  • Support students with completing school projects as assigned by the school teacher
  • Review school assignments and test scores
  • Employ proven study aides to prepare for upcoming tests and quizzes
  • Take notes during tutoring sessions so you can follow up with the student later
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about trouble areas or any other issue that requires attention
  • Maintain proper documentation and submit it to the appropriate administrator 
  • Communicate/collaborate with teachers to help keep students on track with class 

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to instruct by example on the field and move throughout the school building and buses. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to routinely lift/carry athletic equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s/he operates recreation and /athletic equipment with dexterity and in a safe and efficient manner. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. Indoor and outdoor working environment subject to bending, crouching and kneeling to assist students; pushing/pulling and lifting of recreation equipment; standing/walking for prolonged periods of time; occasional running and jumping; and reaching in all directions. The employee will be working in an athletic environment that will occasionally have a high level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, other coaches, and staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

This position is classified as non-exempt (hourly).
