TITLE:

Musical Director- Show Choir

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Meets a minimum of 2 days each week for 1-3 hours per day for a minimum of 9 weeks including occasional weekends, January to June.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works in conjunction with Choreographer
  • At least two preproduction meetings with the Choreographer
  • Runs auditions- prepares music sequences for audition
  • Works with  Choreographer to build an appropriate sized Show Choir and select appropriate music
  • Present at all performances 
  • Teaches appropriate music for Middle School age and audience
  • Coordinates the strike and set up of the theater and theater spaces following a production.
  • Coordinates community performance opportunities for this group
  • Communicates effectively with the custodial staff at the building as needed
  • Communicates effectively to provide a positive, safe and educational experience for students and a high-quality performance for the school and Framingham community

 

JOB GOAL: 

Show choir directors choose musical and vocal arrangements for live performances within the school day and at appropriate community settings as possible. You must find selections that fit particular occasions, holidays, themes, community interests and your talent pool. Selecting the right music requires evaluation and interpretation so you can find pieces that aren't too simplistic or too advanced for your performers. Show choir music director should have a background and training in music and play piano with expertise.   Most of your time is spent directing rehearsals and organizing logistics for performances. Show choir musical directors help with singing, instruments, costume designs,  stage sets, lighting, sound and riser placements along with Show Choir Choreographer

 

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Covered under Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A)- stipend

 

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated as per the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract.
